  1. Approach: As detailed below, the Transportation Safety Board of Canada's (TSB) approach to greening its operations is to ensure green considerations are incorporated in its procurement and disposal practices and that key personnel are trained and evaluated on green objectives.
  2. Management processes and controls
    • The TSB uses Public Works and Government Services Canada's (PWGSC) procurement instruments as its primary procurement mechanism and leverages the environmental considerations incorporated into these Standing Offers and Supply Arrangements by PWGSC.
    • The TSB will continue to follow the Federal Electronic Waste Strategy and the Directive on Disposal of Surplus Materiel for the disposal of tangible assets.
    • In 2013–14, the TSB's disposal processes will be reviewed and updated to ensure that environmental best practices are incorporated in accordance with applicable policies and guidelines.
    • An analysis will be conducted in 2013–14 to examine the TSB's established lifecycle standards to ensure that disposals are being done in a timeframe which favors positive environmental outcomes.
  3. Setting targets: The TSB has set the following targets:
    • 90% (on a dollar-value basis) of all TSB contracts and call-ups for the purchase of goods that are available on Standing Offers and Supply Arrangements will be issued through the use of these PWGSC procurement instruments.
    • All new TSB procurement and materiel management personnel will receive green procurement training within six (6) months of beginning their employment with the TSB.
    • All new TSB materiel management personnel will also receive the Disposal of Surplus Moveable Crown Assets and Investment Recovery course given by the Canada School of Public Service within six (6) months of beginning their employment with the TSB.
    • All functional heads of procurement and materiel management will have green procurement objectives included in their performance agreements.

Meeting targets: The Department will report against these targets in the Departmental Performance Report.
